Unit: Becoming Engineers

This unit is designed to introduce students to simple mechanical engineering, the MYP Design Cycle, and how the Design Cycle and the Engineering Process are similar. Throughout the unit, students will explore the use of simple machines, compound machines, and linkages and apply them to a variety of group and individual projects. The final task, to create a marble machine out of recyclable materials, asks students to apply what they have learned throughout the unit to produce a machine that works both as an individual, stand-alone device and as a modular component to a class-wide machine.
